VW has now presented the ID.6 for the Chinese market at Auto Shanghai, the third model in the ID. family. The all-electric family SUV based on MEB with space for up to seven passengers is available - like the ID.4 - in two versions.
The ID.6 Crozz from the FAW Volkswagen joint venture is rolling off the production line in northern China and the ID.6 X from SAIC Volkswagen is rolling off the production line in the south of the country. Three power levels with 132, 150 and 225 kW and two battery sizes with a usable energy content of 58 and 77 kWh respectively will be offered at launch.
The 225 kW version is the all-wheel drive version, referred to as "4MOTION" by VW. Recently, an MEB all-wheeler for Europe was also unveiled in the form of the Audi Q4 50 e-tron quattro, although Audi only specifies a power output of 220 kW. Next week - specifically on April 28, VW will also unveil an electric VW all-wheeler for Europe in the form of the ID.4 GTX.
Volkswagen does not specify the range in WLTP, but in the China NEDC, which is relevant for the sales market. The 58 kWh model has a range of up to 436 kilometres, with the large battery (and presumably the 150 kW rear-wheel drive) it is up to 588 kilometres. A range for the all-wheel drive version is not explicitly mentioned. However, the China NEDC ensures very high standard ranges, the deviation from everyday values is higher here than in WLTP.
Like the ID.4 X and ID.4 Crozz, the two ID.6 offshoots also differ in a number of design features. These are not just minor changes to the lamp graphics, the headlights also result in changes to the sheet metal. At the rear, the differences are more pronounced: while the ID.6 Crozz carries the number plate on the boot lid, on the ID.6 X it is mounted at the bottom of the bumper - the tail lights, boot lid, bumper and the implied underride protection have all been adapted in each case.
The ID.6 shown in Shanghai in both versions is, according to VW, the first model of the ID. family that was developed specifically for one market. "The ID.6 thus continues the Volkswagen regionalization strategy and is another important building block to become the most sought-after brand for sustainable mobility in China as well," says the Wolfsburg-based company. However, VW excludes the ID.5, which will only be sold in Europe, here - Europe then counts only as a sales region, not as a market.
