Ford is recalling more than 100,000 hybrid or plug-in hybrid-powered vehicles in the U.S. due to a fire hazard. The affected models are the 2020 to 2022 Escape, Maverick and Corsair - but the problem is in the internal combustion part of the powertrain.
In the event of an engine failure, significant amounts of oil and fuel vapors could get onto hot parts of the ignition and cause a fire. In addition, Ford is expanding a previously launched recall for the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition models from 39,000 to 66,221 units. Here, Ford attributes the fire hazard to a circuit board in the battery box that is susceptible to a short circuit.
