Transport for London to order only zero-emission buses with immediate effect

This means that from now on, only battery and hydrogen buses will be procured and the purchase of new diesel and hybrid buses will be discontinued completely. In addition, TfL's goal of a completely locally emission-free bus fleet in London will now be achieved by 2034, three years earlier than previously planned.

"Increasing the use of public transport is already fundamental to tackling the twin problems of air pollution and climate change, but it can play an even bigger role in helping London achieve the zero-emission, zero-carbon future needed to protect Londoners' health and the environment," London shares in a press release, adding that one of the most important actions TfL can take to decarbonise is to phase out diesel vehicles and further convert the transport network to zero-emission vehicles.

Transport for London has already invested heavily in zero-emission buses, it says, talking of a total of 950 e-buses already on the road or on order - without giving an exact breakdown.
