Renault rebels against EU plans

Renault opposes the EU Commission's "Fit for 55" climate package, which would effectively ban new cars with combustion engines, including hybrids, in the EU from 2035. At the IAA Mobility, Renault's head of development Gilles Le Borgne spoke out in favour of extending the deadline to 2040.

Le Borgne argued that there was still uncertainty over the roll-out of charging infrastructure and the cost of e-cars, particularly with regard to low-cost brand Dacia, and that in general Renault needed more time to manage change at its factories and employees, including with regard to supply chains.
