UK electric car subscription service Onto has signed an agreement with Fisker to supply up to 700 examples of the Fisker Ocean in 2023, which would bring Onto's fleet to around 3,000 electric cars.
Production of Fisker's E-SUV is reportedly scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2022 at contract manufacturer Magna. Previously, there were probably also negotiations with VW to use the MEB for the Ocean - instead, the E-SUV is now based on Magna's electric vehicle architecture. For Fisker, this is not the first large order for the Ocean: Danish ride-hailing provider Viggo had already ordered 300 units in 2020.
The agreement with Onto also means that Fisker will also build right-hand drive models of the Ocean right from the start of production, with Onto being the first UK customer, Fisker said. For 2023, Onto will also be the exclusive partner for rental or subscription fleets in the UK, meaning other suppliers can't follow suit until 2024.
"We're seeing the rapid growth of innovative companies like Onto that are enabling the transition to electric mobility," said Henrik Fisker. "Our focus for business-to-business reservations is on high-quality companies that share our commitment to delivering an outstanding customer experience, and our partnership with Onto is an important step in rapidly expanding our presence in the UK electric vehicle market."
