ÖBB Postbus secures up to 40 H2 buses from Solaris

The Polish manufacturer Solaris Bus & Coach is to deliver up to 40 hydrogen buses of the type Urbino 12 hydrogen to Österreichische Postbus AG. The H2 buses are part of a series of framework contracts for the delivery of a total of up to 182 buses for areas of operation throughout Austria - 142 diesel buses and just those 40 hydrogen buses.

As Solaris writes in a press release, the Polish manufacturer has signed a total of three framework agreements with Österreichische Postbus AG - but these are not yet binding orders. According to the framework agreements, ÖBB Postbus can order up to 40 hydrogen and 142 diesel buses in various lengths by 2023.

However, the hydrogen buses are only the 12-metre variant, while the diesel buses vary from 8.9 metres to 12 metres to 18-metre articulated buses. ÖBB Postbus says it has been testing hydrogen buses since 2018 as part of several projects and now apparently considers itself ready to place its first order.

Where the vehicles that ÖBB Postbus has now secured will be used is not clear from the Solaris announcement, but it is clear that it is not the electric regional bus system in the southern Weinviertel region that we reported on this week, where eleven battery-electric buses are to be deployed.solarisbus.com, postbus.at (hydrogen tests)
