California-based electric car startup Lucid Motors plans to start delivering its cars in Germany next year, Germany CEO Roberto Russo confirmed to electrive.net. Deliveries are also set to start in other European countries in 2022.
It had been hinted for a few days that Lucid was planning to enter the German market. Russo himself had announced on LinkedIn that he would be working for Lucid Motors as Country Manager Germany with immediate effect. Speaking to electrive.net, Russo now fleshed out the plans. "We want to start delivering our cars in Germany in 2022," Russo said. "Later this year, we will announce more details about our European market entry." In addition to Germany, Lucid also wants to serve markets such as Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Italy, Monaco, the Netherlands, the flagship e-country Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Pre-orders for the Lucid Air had been available in Europe since January 2020.
Until deliveries begin in Europe, they say, they want to focus on the production and market launch of the Lucid Air in the U.S. Lucid had unveiled the production version of the Air in September 2020. In the U.S., the two top versions "Grand Touring" (for the maximum range of 832 kilometers) and "Dream Edition" (for the maximum power of 794 kW) will be offered first - at prices starting at $139,000 and $169,000, respectively. Later, the "Tour" (starting at $95,000) and the base Pure model of the Air will follow at prices starting at $77,400. All prices are still without the initial tax credit of $7,500 per vehicle.
Russo, an experienced eMobility specialist, does not yet want to confirm when exactly which versions of the Air will be offered in Europe. Starting in 2012, he accompanied the European market launch of the Model S as a sales manager at Tesla, and later advised other carmakers on the sale and market launch of their EV models as a freelance sales expert.
