Is BMW also planning 1 and 2 series models with the New Class?

It is well known that the current iX3, which has been built in China for world markets since 2020, is still based on the combustion engine model. However, the combustion engine series, known internally as G01 by BMW, has already been on the market since 2017, so the base model for the iX3 (internally G08) is due for a generation change in 2024 or 2025 anyway. Therefore, the timing mentioned by the "BMW Blog" for a successor based on the New Class makes sense. The current model was already able to convince with the efficiency of its drive system in our tests, but the combustion engine platform can be felt in the room layout. This is where the successor on an all-E platform could score points.

BMW is also planning fully electric variants of the 1 and 2 Series, with the BMW i1 due in November 2027 and the i2 in July 2028. According to a second article on the "BMW Blog", the codenames NB0 (BMW i1) and NB8 (BMW i2) will be used, with the abbreviation NB referring to the front-wheel drive New Class - the "NA" models will be rear-wheel drive. The internal combustion models of the 1 and 2 Series, based on the FAAR platform, will continue to be built for the time being. The series will then share numbers, but technically have nothing to do with each other.
