HDI offers new e-car insurance

HDI Versicherung has launched a new motor tariff with a focus on electric and hybrid vehicles. For purely electric vehicles, the insurer now offers a discount of around 25 percent compared with similar vehicles with combustion engines. In addition, damage typical of e-cars is now included free of charge in the "normal" insurance cover.

According to HDI, the new motor tariff provides "a significant plus for electromobility". eMobility-specific features that previously had to be selected separately are now covered directly in the tariff - such as a mobile charging station or, more importantly for financial reasons, the traction battery.

"Integrating benefits for e-cars into insurance cover is an important argument," says Herbert Rogenhofer, CEO of HDI Versicherung AG, "because a damaged battery or stolen mobile charging station can be costly for owners of electric or hybrid vehicles." HDI puts the cost of this at "at least €1,000" for the mobile charging station, and "up to €20,000" for battery replacement.

Damage to the vehicle caused by animal bites or short-circuits (including consequential damage) is also insured for up to 20,000 euros. If, for example, a marten damages an HV cable, the entire wiring harness may have to be replaced. Subsequently installed special equipment is also insured up to 25,000 euros free of charge.
