E-plate scheme in Great Britain flops

The UK introduced special license plates for electric vehicles in December 2020 to make it easier for local authorities to enact special regulations, but inquiries by New Scientist have now revealed that in the nine months since the plates were introduced, none of England's 343 local authorities have enacted such special regulations.

Several said they had already introduced incentive schemes such as free or discounted parking for electric cars before the introduction of the plates, while others said they would consider doing so in the future.
