Avatr shows e-small car as Wuling competition

Changan and Changan's e-car brand Avatr, which debuted last year, has unveiled the Lumin Corn, an all-electric subcompact that aims to counter the Wuling Mini EV's dominance of the segment in China.

The two-door, four-seat electric car is scheduled to hit the Chinese market in the second half of 2022. Initially, two LFP battery variants with 12.92 kWh and 17.65 kWh capacity for NEDC ranges of 155 kilometers and 210 kilometers, respectively, are planned. Charging will be exclusively with AC power via the Chinese GB/T standard. A 27.99 kWh battery for a 301-kilometer range will be available later. The Lumin Corn's engine output is 30 kW, with a 35 kW e-motor to follow at a later date.

The subcompact is based on Changan's platform called "EPA0," which is designed for small cars and city cars. At 3.27 meters long with a wheelbase of 1.98 meters, a width of 1.70 meters and a height of 1.55 meters, the Lumin Corn clearly takes aim at SAIC-GM-Wuling's e-bestseller Hongguang Mini EV, which alone sold nearly 400,000 units in China last year.

When it comes to design, however, the Avatr brand, which was founded in 2021, takes a different approach: the Lumin Corn has a decidedly rounded design - and not just for the lights. There are hardly any sharp edges. Inside, there are two displays, one for the driver and one for the infotainment - the latter is 10.25 inches in size, after all. The air conditioning seems to be operated via a few buttons. Although the 3.27-meter-long car is a four-seater, there is still a trunk - but at 104 liters, it turns out to be small, as expected.
